Stitch and Bitch with facilitators Aurora Arder & Catherine Cochran

March 18 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Social knitting groups have been around since before WWII, but the term Stitch and Bitch became popular in the 80’s. It combines the ancient art form with community building and helps forge deep connections and an enduring love of fiber for participants.

Our communities were rocked if not destroyed during the pandemic. Small talk feels generally awkward, and at the same time, more and more people are wanting to reconnect with their creativity. Making is healing. Fiber crafts are meditative, engage multiple parts of the brain, and can lower stress, improve arthritis, and provide a low key way to reconnect with others as well as your own creativity.

I’m hoping this program will provide a safe space for sharing ourselves and our unfolding crafts. Each session will open with a round Robin to share about your life, challenges you’re facing, events for celebration. I might throw in some poetry somewhere.

All skill levels welcome (happy to teach knit/crochet), all feminine persons welcome.

14+. We start with an opening activity, so please come promptly to take advantage of the full experience.

Aurora Arder is a librarian, witch, knitter, and has been working with fiber crafts for over 30 years.

She is intrigued by the magic and healing of wool crafts from sheep to shape, and usually has an emotional support knitting project on hand at all times.

Aurora is from the San Francisco bay area and fell in love with Vashon in 2007, finally moving here in 2020

As a newly certified Financial Literacy instructor Catherine Cochrane brings a diverse background to the financial literacy arena.  Her appreciation for the magic of numbers is the thread that circuitously wraps around each career step: bookkeeper, high school math teacher, financial applications consultant, M&A integration manager, support operations director.  As she embarks on retirement the thread is pulling her back to her first love – teaching…and her new love – women’s empowerment.

We are so pleased to welcome Catherine as a facilitator for an additional day! Ask her about what she’s working on now – it’s so fun!!
