A bit more…
The class is open to adults as well as high school aged people, and there is an emphasis on the stories and ideas of youth, LGBTQI+, BIPOC, and women.
The class is free of charge to King County residents as it’s being paid for by a grant from King County 4Culture, and the space use at Synergy is being donated by Women Hold the Key.
Attendees don’t need to have any past experience, though it’s welcome, and don’t need to have special equipment, though access to a camera (including smart phone) and/or a computer may be helpful to some.
The class is taught by me, Shelley Hanna, as part of a grant for my short film Tiger Stripe. I graduated from The Evergreen State College and studied cinematography and film production, and worked in the local film industry for years, before primarily working as a photographer. My film/video background is primarily in documentary and experimental film, with some animation and narrative film work. Over the years I have taught a variety of local photography classes, as well as a filmmaking class.
