Demystifying the Tarot – A practical workshop to help you read and interpret your cards – Workshop One

Tarot is a powerful tool for developing intuition and gaining insight.
Tarot started as a simple Italian card game. (The word “tarot” is thought to originate from the Italian taroch, meaning foolishness.) Playing cards with four suits first came to Italy from Egypt in the late 1300s. By the mid-1400s, Italians began to hand-paint their decks, adding elaborate illustrations. In a 15th-century sermon, a Dominican preacher called the cards “evil,” due to their use in gambling, and, by the mid-1700s, tarot cards were used for fortune telling. The first deck specifically designed for “occult purposes,” in 1789, featured images from ancient Egypt, perhaps as a nod to the cards’ origins. (information courtesy of Kripalu)
This two-part workshop introduces the meaning and symbolism of each tarot card and its context in the deck.
Workshop One: Major Arcana – The Fool’s Journey – October 23rd, 1pm – 3pm
These 22 cards tell a story of growth and transformation. Learn how to recognize and understand the flow of the journey and the lessons held along the way. These are big themes and deep work.
Workshop Two: Minor Arcana – Daily Experiences – November 4, 2023, 1-3pm
These 56 cards parallel regular playing cards. Learn how the four suits connect to the elements, zodiac, and approaches to daily life. These represent energy and situations in your life right now.
No supplies are required. We will work with the traditional Rider-Waite card deck.
You are welcome to bring your own deck(s) to gain deeper insight to your own tools.
